How are you? I enjoy reading your blog sir. Waiting for more. There is some good news from my end. 

 

I managed to get offers from university of Leicester,university of Hertfordshire, Middlesex university,kingston university and university of Sheffield hallam for my MSc degree. I chose university of Hertfordshire because I was interested in the subject Artificial Intelligence and Robotics which they are offering in january. This has all been possible because of yourrecommendation letter and support. Thank you very much sir. I am very grateful.

Nikhil Kulkarni Visits SDM again

Nikhil Kulkarni has visited SDM earlier  and had shared his invaluable experience with our students. See comments by Vanishree and Pavan Here . Nikhil visited us again us on 4th and held a lively discussions with our VII semester students. Here are the highlights

• Develop interest and passion for something and chase it. Try to explore each thing things u learn in the wider context of their use and application. Friends suggestions made in SNS is based on algorithms
• How to plan u r career. Take it as a 30 year journey; break into 6 parts of 5 year each. For each part have some specific purpose   

• 0-5 years – learn as much as possible about your work and domain
• 6-10 years – specialize in one or more domains.
• 10-15 try out different roles
• 15-20 – consider opening up u r own venture ( Mitesh Naik
• 20-21 become best known name in the field
• Communication skills- contact people; read their blogs, comments on them, write small messages in email – not more than 7 sentences
• Networking – find people and join their address list – get their cards etc 

Amith and Divya make " Give it back to institute" Visit

Today was one such special day where past meets the future in the present or experience meets the anxiety or a strong sense of “giving it back to my institution” propels a lively and interesting interaction.

The Narendra Couple – Amith and Divya, classmates , 2006 passouts interacted with the current VII semester students and shared their views and experience and answered many questions from the student audiences, Here are the key points enunciated by them.

• Don’t build walls; INSTEAD build bridges and Open Up: Narendra made a very observation to by asking students that why you – boys and girls still seat separately and stay away from each other. In industry such a separation or demarcation is not seen nor supported. One has to interact with all kinds of people and has be feel comfortable in interactions involving people of other genders, different age groups, geographical origins. So open up your minds, mingle with people and try to gain confidence in interacting with others.
• Learn with purpose, contexts and relate your learning to  future. “How of many of you are proficient in any one of the programming language you have studied” he challenged the students. While no one in the class took that challenge, he explained that this happens because – you study each course in “isolation” and with a very small purpose of completing it in a given semester. Instead of that one should try to see each subject in the context of entire engineering course and see it as a kind of foundation to the things to come in future.
• Example: While studying a programming language say C a student may always keep asking himself “what features of this language might be needed during the future semesters where I will learn DATA STRUCTURE, OS or even carrying out project?” Such approaches provide a cumulative scheme in which you will be able to learn with an eye on current and future utility of that topic or course. Try to use backward and forward thinking and find out extended use of each topic in next course, next semester and even beyond that
• Discuss Topics and Trends with others: Actively take part in the happenings of the world – at least in the fields related to your domain- what is happening in IT field, who is buying and what, who is acquiring whom? Such knowledge provides a wider perspective of real world which in turn helps you to make informed decisions.
• Prepare for Interviews: Narendra being part of many recruitment events informed students about the thinking of selectors when they look at fresher CV and kinds of questions they pose. More than the academic records, the interview committee looks at candidates ability to approach a problem and different perspective he or she can bring to the company
• Some of the other points highlighted were the needs for establishing networks, communication skills and how to develop them. He gave an example of a student who is to make calls to Vodafone customer help to learn English fluency. 

CSE dept bids farewell to Devi Prasad Achari

Mr Deviprasad Achari, who was working as attender in CSE department is leaving and moving to SDM Ayurvedic College, Udupi. The department bid a farewell to him on 2nd November, 2010. Wishing him all the best in his future life and endeavorer.
