Fresher's Day 2009: A Fantastic Event

It was one of such evenings which in its “happenings “go many miles beyond your widest expectations. I am talking about today's  fresher’s day that was arranged for the newly admitted first year students. Thanks to Prateek Shetty, I was made one the judges for event along with Prof. Kamalapur from Electrical Engineering department and Prof. Tejaswini Bhagawat, from Civil Engineering department. The function started at 4 .30pm. Ever since I accepted the invitation, I was cursing myself for accepting this drudgery.

But once the program started, every bit of apprehension was replaced by delightful evening of very interesting events. A total of 9 classes i.e A-I division students showcased their talents of various forms. Our work of assessment of events as judges was divided into determining winners in three categories: best MOC, best performance and best overall class.

Each class showed its best talent in a very colorful manner. The C division was best in overall performance. It got almost full marks for each event and was bale to entertain audience to the full. The best MOC prize went to Division I.. Using the idea of puppet show, they made MOC an impressive item of their whole show. There was a tough competition in best performance category. The amazing Akbar of D division delivered a great piece of solo dance which made audience to shout “once more” which he obliged very promptly. An equally amazing but well co-ordinated skit by F division won te finall approval of judges. Titled “ Dostana Bollywood” the skit was so nicely conceived, crafted and performed that, it may take stay in the minds of audience for long time to come. Each of actor in the skit was perfect “fit” and appeared have practiced a lot to bring put such a comprehensive show. In sum, it was great evening spent on wholesome entertainment.

With this event , every first year new entrant  remains fresher any more.  But he or she has become a proud member of SDMCET family. Welcome again

Yes sir prateek always does his job till the end. We are happy to know that the freshers day was good.. but WITHOUT us.. Sir i don't think that it is right that we being the members of the cultural committee do all the work and our own friends cannot even get the glimpse of the event. Whats our mistake?? It is a college event and the Fourth Year students aren't allowed. That's wrong Sir... I just wanna say that we are hurt.We must council the freshers,be good to them, help them and do everything needed for the college and in return get such a wonderful response where we are asked to leave the auditorium??

yes we agree with sushil..
screening the talents of the new students could have been called "Screening program"
and addressing to the freshers could have been called "orientation program"

"freshers" is a function where juniors and seniors of the college interact and get to know each other..

we are just unhappy with the title ...

thank you

Being incharge of the disciplinary committee, I stand by the decision made by Raikar sir for not allowing students other than the first years....
I still remember my first performance in our college, where i could not hear the background music to my dance....
Such was the noise!!!
If everyone were allowed into the audi, then I think, Ravindra sir could never judge as to which was the best performance...
Hope you'll know the capacity of our audi...!!

Well i dont agree with prateek... in this matter... i think yea disciplince is important and sould be mailtained.. But there are far more wonderful ways of telling them. Rather than telling the seniors to leave the hall. I am Shocked myself that prateek also thinks the same thing. Yes, he remembers his dance but i think he has forgotten the applause he got for his dance not from his batchmates but from seniors. We have had great and wonderful seniors who ragged us, but they were the people who helped us out. And i think what happend on the freshers day was wrong. We can give a tag line for ourselves "Slaves for Free!!!"

'SLAVES FOR FREE'
Is working for the college or the cultural committee slavery?!
According to princi the freshers day was meant only for the freshers....
To showcase their talents and know each other....
Not get ragged by some seniors...

And talking about myself...
i did get applause and also the best solo performance award... but being called 'huchha' infront of a crowd of 800 odd, is not something I can boast about..

Well.. correction i did not mention that the seniors must be allowed to rag the juniors. Who said that. I think my friend has mistaken me. And yea we all were called hucha... nothing so big deal about that. Even i performed. I was also booed the first time but as the skit went along they appreciated it. i am not against working the cultural committee and i love to work. But i rather working where the administration gives us some respect and gratitude to work.

ok chill guys ... No fights among us ...something we told still stands :)...
An event without seniors cannot be named as "Freshers" .We can talk for this sentence in front of M N Sudheendra Rao Sir as boldly as we are posting it here ..
