I feel a student has to know 3 main tools to really begin developing on web

1. A WebDesigner like MS Visual Studio, MS Expression Web or Adobe Dreamweaver,IBM Rad etc

2. A Database Software like MS SQL Server, IBM DB2 etc

3. A Virtual Server for hosting his/hr applications Microsoft IIS, Wamp, Webshpere.

There alot many other tools but I feel these are the basic.
